Personal Pandemic Engagement: a FREE Assessment for individuals

SITUATION

A mental illness crisis is looming as millions of people worldwide are surrounded by death and disease and forced into isolation, poverty and anxiety by the pandemic of COVID-19, United Nations health experts said on Thursday 14th May, 2020

To some degree or another all of us have had to dig deep in order to cope with the changes, losses and frustrations that have suddenly hit us at this time. We are all in the same boat. You are not alone!

RESOURCE

In response to this growing need Culturescan are pleased to provide a

                              FREE and confidential self- assessment

that is designed to provide feedback on how you are doing during these COVID-19 times of turmoil and uncertainty.

The assessment uses a model developed by Gabrielle Treanor using the metaphor of sinking or swimming. If you’re in the water, you could say that you’re either in the:

Zone of Survival (head under the water, perhaps drowning a little),

Zone of Acceptance (where you are treading water but not particularly comfortably) or

Zone of Growth (where you are OK with the changes, and can swim competently in the given conditions).

HOW IT WORKS

Simply go to  https://culturescan.biz/work-from-home  and fill in a short form to register to participate in an online survey. You will be emailed an invite to do the assessment.

Immediately upon completing the questionnaire you receive your result and feedback. When you submit your online questionnaire you are sent another email that confirms your results and feedback, for your records.
These results allow you to think about things that you can personally improve, and also about those unique strengths that you can make use of - perhaps with the support of a trusted friend, relative, coach, counsellor, therapist.

Because of the volume of demand for this assessment it may only be used three times per email address.

Should you wish to read more about Gabrielle Treanor’s model of the 3 stages of pandemic response (Survival. Acceptance. Growth) and about articles that are available to you that address various aspects of the model, go to:

Should you wish to discover your hardiness profile and measures that you can learn and adopt to improve your resilience to change and adversity (including a copy of Building Your Bounce-Back-Ability) please contact centserv@iafrica.com
(We use the Personal Hardiness Assessment developed by Drs Allen Zimbler and Caryn Solomon, who drew on early work by Dr Suzanne Kobasa. This assessment determines how you navigate personal transitions with respect to your:

  •          Comfort level during the process - adaptability, empathy, expression of feelings
  •          Self-control - inner locus of control, proactivity, self-esteem (and confidence), sharpening the axe
  •           Meeting the Challenge - personal purpose/ vision, positive mind-set)

All of the above material contains suggestions and tips on how to cope better in both crisis and ‘normal’ times, and with the challenges of work-from-home

  1. Graham – Thank you for sharing this free pandemic assessment. As a mental health professional during Covid-19, I can certainly attest that our next pandemic will highly likely be a mental health pandemic. This is incredibly concerning as there is already limited help/resources in this field, along with other challenges such as health insurance plans not always covering mental health treatment. This assessment provides a free way for us to assess where we are psychologically during such a difficult time. I think it is easy to repress or dismiss our current emotions as they are uncomfortable, and we typically do not deal too well with the unknown. The uncertainty around our future and covid-19 has elicited so much fear. I think this assessment can help us determine where we are and what we could possibly do to cope and adjust during this pandemic. In addition, it could potentially help some of us come out of a place of denial and into a place where we could be more in touch and “okay” with allowing ourselves to be scared. It might encourage others to be more proactive or it might put them in a crisis prevention mode. The assessment results are broken into three categories (survival, acceptance, growth) which helps identify the areas where most work is needed and is encourages looking at the pandemic through different lenses. Once again, thank you for sharing!
